Family Tied Up For Hours In Home Invasion, 5 Suspects Charged (ICYMI)

SILVER SPRING, MD — Five suspects have been arrested for holding a Silver Spring family hostage overnight in their apartment, police announced Monday.

At about 8:12 a.m. Aug. 2, officers responded to the 8800 block of Manchester Rd. for the report of a home invasion robbery. An adult female victim told officers that five suspects entered her apartment, bound them and kept them like that overnight before they fled from the home early in the morning. The suspects also stole a car, cash and property from the apartment, police said.

Police announced the following arrests have been made in connection with this incident:

  • Edwin Ajeo, 16, of the 9000 block of Manchester Rd. in Silver Spring. He is being charged as an adult and was arrested Aug. 10. He is being held without bond.
  • Younus Muayad Jafar Alaameri, 23, of the 9000 block of Manchester Rd. in Silver Spring. He was arrested Aug. 4 and is being held without bond.
  • Bobby Johnson, 26, of the 4400 block of Arnold Road in Suitland. He was arrested Aug. 11 and is being held without bond. Johnson’s bond review is scheduled for Aug. 14 in Rockville District Court.
  • Dalik Oxely, 19, of the 2500 block of Darel Dr. in Suitland. He was arrested on Aug. 9 and is being held without bond.
  • Karon Sayles, 25, of the 2500 block of Darel Dr. in Suitland. He was arrested on Aug. 9 and is being held without bond.

Investigation reveals that at about 9 p.m. Aug. 1, a resident of the apartment answered the door and was met by the five suspects, police said. One of the suspects said they were there to do some work in the apartment. The resident let them in and the suspects began to walk around as if they were conducting an inspection, police said.

An adult female and a juvenile arrived at the apartment during this time. They began to question the group's intentions and at that time, one of the suspects displayed a knife and the group began to assault the adult residents, police said.

The adult residents were handcuffed and at least one victim was blindfolded, police said. At about midnight, another adult female arrived at the apartment and fell victim to the group's actions, police said. One of the suspects is accused of inappropriately touching one of the female victims when she was handcuffed on the floor of the apartment.

During the home invasion, one suspect told one of the female victims that he knew she worked at a check-cashing business on Piney Branch Road, police said. The suspect demanded the keys and the business alarm code. The victim recognized the suspect as a customer she had assisted there in the past. The suspects then drove the resident in her own car to the check-cashing place twice during the night in an attempt to gain access to the business. The suspects were unsuccessful in gaining entry, police said. At about 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, one suspect began to assault an adult male victim with a knife. During the assault, this victim disarmed the suspect which caused the three remaining suspects in the apartment to flee, police said. The victims were then able to contact 9-1-1 once the suspects had fled. The suspects stole a car, cash and property from the apartment, police said.Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the home and transported the adult male victim to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries that he received during the home invasion robbery and assault.The suspects are charged with home invasion, armed robbery, kidnapping, vehicle theft and false imprisonment, police said.
