Families evacuated after apartment fire in Three Oaks

by Caroline Torie, WSBT 22 Reporter

Emergency crews responded early Saturday morning to the scene of an apartment fire in Three Oaks, Michigan.

It happened just off of U.S. 12 at Hidden Harbor Villas around 5:40 a.m.

Officials on scene say at least one apartment was a total loss.

Crews say everyone got out safely. No injures have been reported at this time.

Officials credit two men in the apartment building who ran up and down the halls, banging on people’s doors to make sure they were awake and out of the apartment building.

The American Red Cross also came to bring first responders and residents food and water. They also talked to displaced residents about their next steps.

The Fire Chief said that the fire started on the second floor, in the back left. He says it started in the utility closet.

The cause, however, is still under investigation.
