96 Baxter Street via Google Street View The 13-story, 88- unit rental building for low- income seniors at 96 Baxter Street in Chinatown has opened its waiting list to new applicants this week for the first time in 25 years (h/t Lo-Down). Only people aged 62 and older (over 18 if they are mobility impaired) can apply. The units rent for  30 percent of one’s annual income ; studios are available to those earning less than $33,400 a year and one-bedroom to those earning less than $38,200. The waitlist originally contained over 3,000 names, a number which now stands at only a handful. Among the building’s current tenants, two are reportedly 108 years old. An apartment development valued at $48 million is coming to West Ashley. Charleston-based Middle Street Partners  said it has broken ground on the 316-unit Atlantic at Grand Oaks complex on Ashley Gardens Boulevard . It's near West Ashley Circle at Bees Ferry Road and Glenn McConnell Parkway . The rental complex will feature 16 two- and three-story buildings and a 7,000-square-foot clubhouse with a fitness center, cafe and community kitchen overlooking a pool. The 26-acre site also will feature large open spaces and several grand trees for which the property is named. I've lived in 3 different apartment complexes the last few years, and she has been the most attentive, kind and helpful. The downsides of this place are the washers and dryers. They eat my money often, but I call Carla to let her know and she gives me my quarters back the next day! The carpet in the hall is also pretty old and not too attractive, but they say they are going to replace it once the dogs (existing dogs were grandfathered in, they no longer accept dogs ) are no longer on the property. Who knows. The apartment, itself, has been pretty great. Nice carpet, huge rooms, good sized bathrooms , and nice walk in closet in the master. The appliances are kinda old, but they work just fine. The neighbors get kinda loud at times and I admit, I get pretty annoyed at that. There's not much anyone can do though. Some of the noise comes from the other apartment...

La Mirage: hilltop site a few blocks from Qualcomm Stadium The Irvine Co. has bought an upscale apartment complex in Mission Valley — the company’s largest single-property acquisition of the year. The Newport Beach- based real estate investor and developer recently closed on the purchase of La Mirage, a 1,410- unit apartment complex just off Interstate 15. The 74- acre hilltop site is a few blocks from Qualcomm Stadium. La Mirage was bought from Chicago- based apartment owner Equity Residential . A sale price for the transaction, which was completed late last month, was not disclosed. The tab would come to about $ 350 million based on a per- apartment price of about $250,000 — the going rate for high- end rental properties in the region.
