BUFFALO, N.Y. - The grand opening of Creekside Village , the University at Buffalo's newest student housing complex , will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 22 in the community building of the complex on Skinnersville Road on the UB North (Amherst) Campus. The fifth apartment-style complex to be built for student housing by UB in five years at no cost to New York State taxpayers , Creekside Village will open this month for graduate and professional students, including married students . The five projects have provided fully furnished apartments for 2,170 students that did not exist five years ago. The $ 11 million Creekside Village project , sponsored by the University at Buffalo Foundation and UB Alumni Association , is comprised of 13 two- story buildings featuring 102 two-bedroom townhouse units and 14 two-bedroom ranch-style units for a total designed occupancy of 232. La Mirage: hilltop site a few blocks from Qualcomm Stadium The Irvine Co. has bought an upscale apartment complex in Mission Valley — the company’s largest single-property acquisition of the year. The Newport Beach- based real estate investor and developer recently closed on the purchase of La Mirage, a 1,410- unit apartment complex just off Interstate 15. The 74- acre hilltop site is a few blocks from Qualcomm Stadium. La Mirage was bought from Chicago- based apartment owner Equity Residential . A sale price for the transaction, which was completed late last month, was not disclosed. The tab would come to about $ 350 million based on a per- apartment price of about $250,000 — the going rate for high- end rental properties in the region. That estimate would put the deal among the most expensive seen in San Diego this year. Federal investigators said they found a disconnected vent pipe in the basement room where natural gas built up before a lethal explosion last year at a Silver Spring apartment complex . They have not determined when the pipe was disconnected, why or who did it, but the disconnect would have bypassed a safety feature meant to vent gas from the basement room of the building to the exterior, investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives wrote in a preliminary report on the Aug. 10, 2016, explosion that killed seven people, injured more than 30 and left more than 100 homeless. “The person who disconnected the vent pipe, as well as his/her intentions in doing so, are as of yet to be determined,” investigators wrote in a preliminary report that was made public Tuesday . Six people had to jump to safety from the second story of a burning apartment building early Monday after an unattended candle caught fire .    HOUSTON - Six people had to jump to safety from the second story of a burning apartment building early Monday . The fire broke out at the Coppertree Village Apartments on W. Gulf Bank near Veterans Memorial at about 4 a.m.  Several residents were trapped and jumped from a window to get out.  “It had started in the living room so we had to bust through the window to get out,” said Audrey Richardson.  “I jumped with my baby to break her fall.” Two adults suffered minor injuries , including one woman who broke her foot in the fall and another relative who cut his arm breaking through the glass.   Two young girls were among the six family members who had to make the emergency escape but they weren't hurt.   # BREAKING cell phone video shows what apartment looked like. An attic fire broke out at an apartment complex in Mission Valley Friday morning , sending fire crews rushing to the scene. The fire began just before 6 a.m. at the two- story Centre Point Apartments in the 6500 block of Friars Road. When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke could be seen stemming from the roof of the building. Fire officials said residents had evacuated safely. Within minutes, the San Diego Fire -Rescue Department (SDFD) upgraded the situation to a two-alarm fire, fearing the flames would spread to the entire length of the attic space. Firefighters created a fire wall to prevent the spreading, cutting holes in the roof of the building to attack the blaze. The tactic worked, and they knocked out the fire within half an hour. San Diego police were called to assist with traffic control in the busy area of Friars Road in both directions. San Diego Gas & Electric officials were also requested on scene. An apartment development valued at $48 million is coming to West Ashley. Charleston-based Middle Street Partners  said it has broken ground on the 316-unit Atlantic at Grand Oaks complex on Ashley Gardens Boulevard . It's near West Ashley Circle at Bees Ferry Road and Glenn McConnell Parkway . The rental complex will feature 16 two- and three-story buildings and a 7,000-square-foot clubhouse with a fitness center, cafe and community kitchen overlooking a pool. The 26-acre site also will feature large open spaces and several grand trees for which the property is named. Apartments will include kitchen islands with granite countertops, 9-foot ceilings and screened porches. Live Oak Contracting of Jacksonville, Fla., is the general contractor. FARMINGDALE, NY - The Nassau County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) recently approved an economic compact that will assist a developer in building an apartment complex in Farmingdale for persons 55 years of age or older. “This project will further the redevelopment efforts of the Village of Farmingdale as its works with its master plan to revive its downtown and will create new, much- needed housing options for seniors,” County Executive Edward Mangano . The compact, approved by the IDA at its Aug. 16 meeting, will assist Ronkonkoma- based Carlyle Building LLC in constructing a 50,497-square foot, 3-1⁄2- story apartment building on vacant land at 776-780 Fulton Street.
