Pinehurst police investigate apartment death
Police in Pinehurst are investigating a death originally thought to have been the result of a stabbing, Pinehurst Police Chief Fred Hanauer reports.
According to a news release from the chief, Officer J. Trussell responded to the Sussex Manor Apartments at 3000 MacArthur Drive in Pinehurst on Jan. 23 at 12:23 p.m. in reference to a death at a residence there. Upon arrival at the location, he located a white male deceased within the apartment. Initial reports to the Pinehurst Police Department indicated that the victim may have suffered from stab wounds following a break-in, but Hanauer stated in the release that the investigation proved that was not the case. In addition to Pinehurst officers, officers with the West Orange, Orange and Bridge City Police Departments, Texas Rangers, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Orange County Homicide Investigation Team, Orange County District Attorney’s office and Jefferson County Crime Scene Unit responded and assisted with the investigation.
The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Raymond Lynn Maddox, who lived at that address with his common-law wife. Hanauer reports there is no apparent cause of death at this time, and an autopsy has been ordered by Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Derry Dunn. Hanauer added that any information as to the cause of death at this point would be purely speculative and that more definitive information should be obtained during the autopsy.
