Suffolk County landlord John Alaia charged with apartment thefts

EAST MORICHES, N.Y. (WABC) --

Suffolk County Police have arrested a building superintendent who is accused of burglarizing numerous apartments within the complex where he worked.

Police said John Alaia, 37, accessed tenant apartments at the Walden Pond complex, located at Walden Court in East Moriches, and stole items from residents. The burglaries took place when tenants were not home.

Alaia, who also lives in the complex, was charged with four counts of burglary in the second degree.

Residents of the complex are asked to call (631) 852-8752 if they have any missing items, especially jewelry. The investigation is continuing.

Alaia is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on Dec. 5.
