Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators said Thursday morning that an hours-old infant girl was found safe in the 17700 block of Red Oak Drive on Houston's north side at the Bridges of Cypress Creek apartment complex.

According to KTRK-TV the infant was apparently abandoned by her mother. The child was found covered in ants in a series of bushes early Thursday after a man reported he heard crying.

A tweet from the sheriff's office said that a female was being detained in connection with the incident.

The 21-year-old mother was found after officials found a trail of blood leading back to her apartment, officials said. The baby was transported to Texas Children's Hospital in The Woodlands.

A male at the residence was also detained for questioning. There was no word on charges being filed against either of the adults.

Officials said that more information was set to be released about the infant's condition and the circumstances of the scene.
