Buckhead institution relocates after finding itself in path of progress
Few desserts are complete without a dollop of something sweet on top, and the same may be said for Henri’s Bakery—a Buckhead institution for nearly 90 years.
And yet, when it was announced the bakery would relocate from a building it’s called home since 1929, it seemed the iconic, rooftop sign would be lost in the move, due to a sign ordinace at the business’ new home, Andrews Square.
But according to WABE, a special exception has been granted to allow the erection of “historic iconic signs” on rooftops. The measure was introduced by Atlanta City Councilwoman Yolanda Adrean and approved by the council Monday night.
With clearance, the sign can now be taken out of storage and repositioned just down the street from where it once stood.
This is hardly the first accommodation made to what Buckhead.com notes is the neighborhood’s second oldest business.
Last year, as work was slated to begin on the apartment tower that will replace the old location, construction was delayed to allow Henri’s to continue operating through the holidays.
Once the tower is complete, Henri’s is slated to move into a retail space in the base.
