Plano shooting suspect arrested after standoff - Story

- A man was taken into custody after a SWAT standoff early Tuesday morning in East Plano.

The standoff started around 3 a.m. at an apartment complex on Sherrye Drive, which is near 14th Street and Jupiter Road.

Police said there was some sort of argument between the suspect and another man. The other man was shot in the leg and is expected to survive. The suspect also suffered a hand injury.

Responding officers were able to follow a trail of blood to find the suspect inside an apartment. He refused to come out.

A SWAT team eventually sent a robot into the apartment. Police found the suspect hiding in a closet and used the robot to communicate with him and convince him to surrender around 6:30 a.m.

The barricaded man was arrested and taken to the hospital to be checked out. It’s not yet clear what charges he will face.

Neighbors were evacuated during the standoff.
