Willows apartment complex becoming men’s housing | Local News

REXBURG — Hemming Village announced today the women’s housing complex previously known as The Willows will become men’s housing starting in January 2018.

The complex will be renamed The Cedars and will be the male housing counterpart of the newly rebuilt Cedars women’s apartment complex across the street.

The change was made public at an event held at The Willows apartment complex called “Rock The Willows.”

A spokeswoman for Hemming Village told the Standard Journal that the decision was made in an effort to “create more of a community environment” that would be advantageous to both male and female tenants.

“We saw a situation and decided to make a change to benefit the surrounding community,” she said. “It’s more about creating a fun atmosphere at BYU-I and Hemming Village. With the women’s housing across the street, we felt that changing the Willows to men’s housing was the best way to approach that.”

After the current semester ends at the Brigham Young University-Idaho, The Willows will undergo renovations to make the formerly female housing complex more male-oriented.

The spokeswoman said she couldn’t go into details, but the renovations will create an environment for male tenants to “have quality housing in Rexburg.”
