Aspen Ridge Cottonwood apartments now open | The Verde Independent

"When we build a new apartments, our intent is develop a sense of community," said Terry Campbell of CHDA Construction, during a ribbon cutting ceremony June 8.

Approximately 50 people gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Aspen Ridge Apartments in Cottonwood, located at 831 E. Mingus.

"This is CHDA's third low income project in Cottonwood," said Cottonwood vice Mayor Randy Lowe. "They have outdone themselves with Aspen Ridge."

The new 96-unit complex has resort style features such as a heated pool, gas barbecue and picnic area, shaded playground, TV viewing lounge and clubhouse.

Upscale apartment features include walk-in closets, gourmet kitchens, built-in microwave and dishwasher, washer and dryer hookups and more.

"One of the best things about the community building is the after-school learning center," said Campbell. Starting August 24, Buena Vista Children's Services will provide a Discovery Connection after school program in the community building with little or no cost to the families.

The program will provide children with homework assistance, multiple intelligence based learning curriculum, art, and drama. The learning center also includes three computer stations for the children.

"We have room for up to 24 children in the Aspen Ridge Apartment program," said Leslie Owen, Director of Buena Vista Children's Services. "We are delighted to provide this service, the building is beautiful."

During the ceremony, Campbell, on behalf of CHDA Construction Company, CBM Property Management, Boston Capitol, Bonneville Mortgage and the staff at Aspen Ridge, presented Owen with a check for $2,400 for the children's program.

"I am very excited about the learning center," Campbell said. "We introduced the concept in Texas with the YMCA and it is very successful."

Lowe shared those sentiments.

"As the demand for affordable housing increases, it is good to know that low income families will have a quality place to live," Lowe said.

Details into Minnetonka officer-involved shooting may not be released for weeks

  The questions haunting relatives and friends of an Austin, Minn., man shot and killed by Minnetonka police may remain unanswered for months. The Hennepin County Sheriff ’s Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting of Michael Tray, 27, in an apartment parking garage on Wednesday, but in similar cases, it’s taken months before details are publicly released.
