Aug 28, 2014 USC senior cornerback Josh Shaw has admitted to lying about how he suffered his ankle injuries last weekend and has been suspended indefinitely , the school said in a statement Wednesday. Shaw said he suffered a pair of high ankle sprains Saturday night after jumping from the second story of an apartment complex to save his 7-year-old nephew, who was struggling in the pool. Shaw said his nephew did not know how to swim. He admitted to team officials on Wednesday that the story was a complete fabrication. Head coach Steve Sarkisian said Tuesday the school received several calls questioning the authenticity of Shaw's story and had been investigating the matter. LOS ANGELES – The heroic tale of USC cornerback Josh Shaw rescuing his nephew from drowning turned out to be a lie. What exactly happened that night, causing Shaw to injure both of his ankles, remains unclear. Shaw admitted to school officials Wednesday afternoon that he fabricated the story posted on USC’s website, ending a two-day whirlwind of rumors and speculation. Shaw was suspended indefinitely from all team activities. “We are extremely disappointed in Josh,” USC coach Steve Sarkisian said in a statement. “He let us all down. As I have said, nothing in his background led us to doubt him when he told us of his injuries, nor did anything after our initial vetting of his story. “I appreciate that Josh has now admitted that he lied and has apologized. BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — The Latest on the Spain attacks (all times local): 11:30 p.m. Police in the southern French city of Nimes have arrested a man unlawfully carrying a pistol into a train station, but say he is not linked to the attacks in Barcelona. After an evacuation and police operation at the train station Saturday night , the historic city quickly returned to normal, with police returning to their posts. A national police spokesman said the operation began when a passenger alerted police to a man with a weapon. Police quickly found and arrested him, said the spokesman, who was not authorized to be publicly named. The spokesman said the man has no apparent connection to Thursday's attacks around Barcelona, about 380 kilometers southwest of Nimes. WAKE FOREST, N.C. - The FBI said Thursday that a Wake Forest man 's kidnapping over the weekend was part of an elaborate plot with apparent ties to the victim's daughter, who is a prosecutor, reports CBS affiliate WRAL . The man was rescued in Atlanta late Wednesday after being kidnapped Saturday. At a news conference Thursday morning , John Strong - special agent in charge of the FBI in North Carolina - said 63-year-old Frank Janssen was targeted by "a group of very dangerous people," according to the station. Authorities said Janssen was kidnapped from his home in Wake Forest's Heritage subdivision. An elite FBI team rescued Janssen from the Forest Cove Apartments in southeast Atlanta just before midnight Wednesday, an FBI spokeswoman said in a statement, according to AJC.com. BARCELONA, Spain — The Latest on the Spain attacks (all times local): 5:15 a.m. Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has asked people to pray for a young Australian boy who is missing after a vehicle attack on a popular Barcelona promenade that killed 13 people. Turnbull said Saturday that the boy's mother was badly injured and is in a hospital following Friday's attack at the Las Ramblas promenade . Turnbull says the boy's family is searching for him. He did not release the boy's name.
