" /> East Harlem Rezoning View Full Caption EAST HARLEM — The mayor is ignoring El Barrio residents ' input on rezoning the neighborhood, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer charged Wednesday afternoon . “Despite our clear recommendations, the administration is not taking the community’s plan seriously,” said Brewer during a public hearing on East Harlem's proposed rezoning . After a two-year process in which residents and local business owners came up with recommendations of what they'd like to see in the rezoning, city officials came up with their own plan that doesn't include those recommendations, Brewer told the City Planning Commission . Nearly 100 speakers signed up to talk during a five-hour meeting at 1 Centre St. Wednesday. To maintain some semblance of balance, commissioners took turns listening to five people in favor of ...

Cardiff Bay: What has 30 years of development achieved?

Image
Media playback is unsupported on your device Media caption What has been achieved in 30 years of redevelopment in Cardiff Bay? Future development of Cardiff Bay needs a more coordinated approach to ensure its success, the man behind its reinvention 30 years ago has said. Lord Crickhowell has hailed the overall regeneration of the former derelict docklands as a major success. But he is fiercely opposed to the latest plans to redevelop land for flats, including a 24-story building. Three decades after he sparked plans for one of the biggest overhauls the city has seen, what has been achieved? Image caption Cardiff Bay waterfront in 1977 - derelict before regeneration Once the epicentre of Wales' booming coal and export industries, by the 1980s, Cardiff Bay had become an abandoned wasteland of derelict docks and mudflats. A victim of a dramatic fall in trade following World War Two and competition from other ports saw its decline and a plan was put in place to bring it back to lif...

Construction finally begins on long-planned Logan Square apartment block

Image
More than three years after the proposal for new apartments and retail at 2340 N. California Avenue first surfaced, the project’s developers have finally broken ground . According to developers Hunt Investment Management and Savoy Development , workers have finally begun constructing a new six-story building at the site. The project, which currently does not have a formal name or branding yet, will eventually deliver 138 apartments , 44 vehicle parking spaces , and roughly 9, 000 square feet of ground floor retail space to the booming Logan Square neighborhood by fall 2018. While it was proposed around the same time as other nearby transit-oriented developments that have been completed and open for at least several months, the plan to develop on California had experienced a number of alterations and setbacks since it was introduced in April 2014. Originally dubbed “California Studios,” the plan from Savoy Development sought a dense 66-unit project with 63 units being studio apar...

Plano residents give input to planning commission | News

Red was not the color of choice Tuesday night at Plano Elementary School . The crimson hue was the color of the sticker representing multi - family residential development in an exercise City- County Planning Commission Executive Director Ben Peterson cooked up to help the 60 or so residents of the Plano community at a public meeting to give input into the future of the Plano Road corridor . Longtime Plano resident Tim Denton summed up the feelings of many in the crowd when he stood up mid-meeting and proclaimed: “I’m adamantly opposed to any multi-family developments in the Plano area.” Denton’s pronouncement prompted the type of raucous applause you might expect from fans at a Hilltopper football game . It was obvious during Peterson’s presentation and the stickers-on-a-map exercise that followed that the locals were seeing red at the very mention of apartment complexes or any other type of high- density development along the Plano Road corridor from Scottsville Road to Ky. 24...

Stanford to pay up to $5 million for bike/ped Caltrain crossing at Middle Avenue | News

As part of preliminary terms of a development agreement between Stanford and the city of Menlo Park, Stanford officials have said the university will pay for half of the cost – up to a maximum of $5 million – to build a tunnel or overpass to allow safe crossing of the Caltrain tracks at Middle Avenue in Menlo Park. The Menlo Park City Council is expected to consider the terms of the development agreement for Stanford's proposed project a 500 El Camino Real at its meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Under the proposed agreement, the city will administer the crossing project , but Stanford will help pay for it. A study by consultants from the transportation firm AECOM to develop preliminary designs for the crossing is in progress. The university also agreed to provide additional below-market- rate housing – a total of 10 units, two or three units beyond what is required as part of the city's below-market-rate ordinance – and to donate $1 million, or $100,000 for 10 years...

Jade and Edward Roberts have new home contract torn up by C24 developer.

Image
Jade and Edward Roberts were stung by the sunset clause on the first day of their honeymoon. A COUPLE’S dream of buying a home turned into a nightmare when it was abruptly taken away from them two years after paying for it. Jade and Edward Roberts purchased a home in Croydon, in Melbourne’s east, in 2015. They bought it off the plan — a process of committing to buy a property that hasn’t yet been built — for $399,000 but received a discount of $15,000. “We had decided it was time we wanted to buy a house and we started looking at already established houses,” Mrs Roberts told news .com.au. “We went through the process. For example, there was one house we really liked and put in an offer for but it was sold for $100,000 more than what they said it would. “Somebody told us they saw this particular development in Croydon and it was trying to sell the last few homes and knocking off $15,000 and wiping the stamp duty. “It was going to be ready by the end of (2015). We wanted something strai...

Forsyth Park apartment complex vote may be reversed

A vote in support of a controversial 114-unit, five- story apartment complex next to Forsyth Park could be reversed this week — or area residents hoping the project is blocked could just get their hopes dashed for a second time. One Savannah City Council member is now having second thoughts about rezoning the project site bounded by Drayton Street , East Bolton Street , Abercorn Street and East Bolton Lane . After voting to approve Delray Ventures’ rezoning request for the project on Aug. 3, Savannah Alderman Tony Thomas announced on Facebook the next day that he plans to call for the 5-3 vote to be reconsidered during Thursday’s meeting. Thomas said Monday that he wants to hear more information about the project and see if the developer would be open to reducing the scale of the building, which he now believes is too big for the area. “I’ve never ever called for reconsideration of a vote up until now because I have reservations and am not afraid to go out and limb and reconsider...
