An apartment development valued at $48 million is coming to West Ashley. Charleston-based Middle Street Partners  said it has broken ground on the 316-unit Atlantic at Grand Oaks complex on Ashley Gardens Boulevard . It's near West Ashley Circle at Bees Ferry Road and Glenn McConnell Parkway . The rental complex will feature 16 two- and three-story buildings and a 7,000-square-foot clubhouse with a fitness center, cafe and community kitchen overlooking a pool. The 26-acre site also will feature large open spaces and several grand trees for which the property is named. Apartments will include kitchen islands with granite countertops, 9-foot ceilings and screened porches. Live Oak Contracting of Jacksonville, Fla., is the general contractor. Providence Place Apartments rendering by SGN+A. HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- Developers are breaking ground or already at work on several major apartment projects this year across the Huntsville area. The construction activity isn 't surprising to David Wilson, who tracks dozens of apartment complexes with 60 or more units in the local market. "We've had few new construction starts the last few years," he said. "Things are ramping up after a lull." It helps that the Huntsville area has one of the healthier economies in the state and region, Wilson said. Only 86 apartments were added to the local market in 2011, according to Wilson, a sales agent with Birmingham- based Rock Apartment Advisors and president of The David Wilson Co. in Huntsville. NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - A Channel 4 I- Team investigation found the out-of-state landlord of a Nashville apartment complex earned $1,023,126 despite repeated code violations , including a caved-in ceiling and sewage leaks. Sheree McLaurin showed the Channel 4 I-Team photos of her ceiling caving in and the ripped-up kitchen floor in her apartment at the Riverchase Apartments complex in east Nashville . "It was horrible. It was horrible," McLaurin said. Danielle Nix also showed us photos of her old apartment at Riverchase, including how her ceiling was peeling apart and damage in her bathtub. "It was very deplorable conditions," Nix said. A Channel 4 I- Team investigation found the Riverchase complex received 18 code violations in the last five years. A vote in support of a controversial 114-unit, five- story apartment complex next to Forsyth Park could be reversed this week — or area residents hoping the project is blocked could just get their hopes dashed for a second time. One Savannah City Council member is now having second thoughts about rezoning the project site bounded by Drayton Street , East Bolton Street , Abercorn Street and East Bolton Lane . After voting to approve Delray Ventures’ rezoning request for the project on Aug. 3, Savannah Alderman Tony Thomas announced on Facebook the next day that he plans to call for the 5-3 vote to be reconsidered during Thursday’s meeting.
