La Mirage: hilltop site a few blocks from Qualcomm Stadium The Irvine Co. has bought an upscale apartment complex in Mission Valley — the company’s largest single-property acquisition of the year. The Newport Beach- based real estate investor and developer recently closed on the purchase of La Mirage, a 1,410- unit apartment complex just off Interstate 15. The 74- acre hilltop site is a few blocks from Qualcomm Stadium. La Mirage was bought from Chicago- based apartment owner Equity Residential . A sale price for the transaction, which was completed late last month, was not disclosed. The tab would come to about $ 350 million based on a per- apartment price of about $250,000 — the going rate for high- end rental properties in the region. That estimate would put the deal among the most expensive seen in San Diego this year. 5/12/2017 Overall Experience : A good first apartment for a poor newlywed couple .  But completely unsuitable for a family or someone looking to rent for more than 1 year. Pros: *Cheap rent, the rent here is competitive for the area. *The landscape is well maintained. *The apartments are regularly treated with pest control though we did see quite a few cockroaches. *Two laundry rooms with 3 dryers and 3 washers each. *Plenty of hot water that never seems to run out. Cons: *Once every few days the entire complex will be engulfed in a horrific smell akin to marijuana or burning rubber.  It only happens at night when you're trying to sleep and shut windows won 't keep it out.  The landlord will tell you it's just a skunk but in your heart of hearts you'll know that it can't be just a skunk.  We think it was the car repair shop next door burning old oil.  Either that, or one of the apartments were hot-boxing and opened their windows to air it out.  I eventually devel...

Shaw said he suffered a pair of high ankle sprains Saturday night after jumping from the second story of an apartment complex to save his 7-year-old nephew, who was struggling in the pool. BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — The Latest on the Spain attacks (all times local): 11:30 p.m. Police in the southern French city of Nimes have arrested a man unlawfully carrying a pistol into a train station, but say he is not linked to the attacks in Barcelona. After an evacuation and police operation at the train station Saturday night , the historic city quickly returned to normal, with police returning to their posts. A national police spokesman said the operation began when a passenger alerted police to a man with a weapon. Police quickly found and arrested him, said the spokesman, who was not authorized to be publicly named. The spokesman said the man has no apparent connection to Thursday's attacks around Barcelona, about 380 kilometers southwest of Nimes.
