He said that the story he told of rescuing his nephew in a pool in Palmdale, Calif., was a complete fabrication.  He apologized for misleading his coaches, teammates, athletic department officials and the public. The parents of a 9-year-old Santa Maria boy who was the focus of an Amber Alert search this week were engaged in bitter divorce proceedings and had a court hearing scheduled for Thursday. Konstantin Morozov, 48, and his ex-wife, Natalia Morozova, were both shot to death this week — Morozova was allegedly killed by her former spouse Monday night in Santa Maria, and Morozov was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting in Los Angeles on Tuesday night. Santa Barbara County Superior Court documents identify the couple as the parents of 9-year-old Daniel Morozov, the subject of the Amber Alert that was issued early Tuesday , hours after police were summoned to the Arbolinda Apartments on North College Drive in Santa Maria, where Natalia Morozova was found dead. Santa Maria police have not confirmed Morozova was the woman fatally shot Monday night , but her identification has been shared widely on social media, and a memorial service was held for her Tuesday. A toddler was hospitalized in critical condition after falling from a fifth-story window of a Park La Brea apartment in an incident police deemed an accident. It happened about 7:45 p.m. Monday at an apartment building at 360 South Burnside Avenue , Sgt. E. Vialta of the Los Angeles Police Department 's Wilshire Station said. A window was left open and the 2-year-old fell out, Vialta said. The boy suffered injuries to his face and body and required surgery at a hospital. Detectives from the LAPD's Child Abuse Unit were investigating the fall, Vialta said. "Many of us have asked about the safety of the windows," said Heidi Albee, a neighbor and mother of two boys under 4 years old. At a tower across the way, Albee's windows in her 12th floor apartment open and close with a crank. There are screens she and other residents say they can purchase to cover their windows. Residents on one stretch of Sepulveda Boulevard in North Hills will be getting hundreds of new neighbors in a few years, from a four- building apartment complex at the shuttered Green Arrow Nursery and Hardware site. The Los Angeles City Council this week signed off on the project at 8811 Sepulveda Blvd. The development at the 4.5-acre site is slated to include up to 364 residential units, accompanied by parking spaces for 557 cars and 405 bicycles. On the side facing Langdon Avenue Elementary School , the buildings will be between two- and three-stories tall, while the apartments will rise to six floors on the Sepulveda Boulevard side . The project will be a noticeable addition to this area of North Hills and could lead to more interest by investors in the neighborhood, according to Art Simonian, whose company, Metro Investments, is the developer. A major residential project could be on the way to Reseda, bringing 205 new apartments to the area. The six- story development is planned for 6670 North Reseda Boulevard , just a half-block from the LA River, and will replace a cluster of commercial and office buildings that now stand on the project site. Plans published last week on the Los Angeles Department of City Planning website show that the project will also include 5,932 square feet of commercial space , along with a total of 307 parking spaces for cars and 238 spots for bikes in a two-level garage. 18 of the units in the complex will be set aside for very low-income tenants. In return, the developer has asked for an increase in the project’s allowable height and density. A total of 24,188 square feet of open space will be included in the finished complex . An explosion and fire at an apartment building in South Pasadena Tuesday left a woman seriously injured, police said. Firefighters and police officers were sent to the 1700 block of Huntington Drive about 6:30 a.m., according to the Pasadena Police Department . The 12-unit complex was evacuated, and firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.
