WASHINGTON (Aug. 15, 2017) — The National Transportation Safety Board opened the public docket Monday as part of its ongoing investigation of the Aug. 10, 2016, apartment building explosion fueled by natural gas in Silver Spring, Maryland. The explosion and fire in a four- story apartment building , part of the Flower Branch apartment complex in Silver Spring, Maryland, resulted in seven fatalities and 65 civilians were transported to local medical facilities . Also, 3 firefighters sustained minor injuries . An attached, adjacent apartment building sustained explosion damage and was immediately involved in the fire. Twenty-eight people were injured in a night club shooting incident early Saturday morning in Little Rock city in US state of Arkansas. In Los Angeles a drunk man opened fire at people attending a poolside birthday party at a San Diego apartment complex . Eyewitnesses in the Los Angeles incident reported that the shooter was at ease, and went on a spree holding a gun in one hand and a beer bottle in the other. The incident killed two and injured over 6 people. Another incident at a Ciccinatti nightclub left one dead and 14 injured, atleast one of whom was quoted by the Xinhua News Agency to be in a critical condition. The number of high-poverty neighborhoods in Colorado Springs rose from six to 22 between 2000 and 2015, a study conducted by the U.S. Census and published by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University has found. In the Springs, low-income neighborhoods used to occupy high- density urban areas , but, following a recent national trend , the study found that the city’s poor have increasingly dispersed into the city’s outer edges: fragmented neighborhoods with potentially limited access to public transportation or support programs. The study did not specify what outlying neighborhoods the growth has occurred in, but defined “high poverty” areas as those where 20 percent or more of the population lives below the federal poverty line . HARRIS COUNTY, TX (KHOU) - A newborn baby girl is receiving medical attention after being found in the bushes at an apartment complex . According to the Harris County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded to The Bridges of Cypress Creek apartment complex on Red Oak Drive early Thursday morning . A man who lives in the complex told deputies that he heard a baby crying and at first thought it was a toy. When the man realized the baby was alive, he took the baby home and called police. Deputies say the baby was less than an hour old and was covered in ants.  KHOU 11 spoke to the man who discovered the infant and saved her life. WENTWORTH, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities in North Carolina have charged a man in connection with the stabbing of a 44-year-old woman and a 7-year-old child.The Rockingham County Sheriff 's Office said Friday that Eden police have charged 34-year-old Christopher Raymond Ellison with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Sgt. Kevin Suthard said police officers and sheriff's deputies responding on Aug. 17 found the victims at an apartment. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries described as serious. Officers confronted Ellison after a search, and he was shot and wounded by police. Authorities didn't say whether Ellison was armed. Ellison was released from the hospital on Thursday and jailed under a $1 million bond. It's not known if he has an attorney.

MILLVILLE — Oakview Apartment operators are threatening to evict residents in at least 50 units unless their past- due heating bills are paid by the end of the month, the president of the newly formed tenants association says. Nate Sanders said some of the people living in the low- income housing development on East Broad Street near Wade Boulevard owe thousands of dollars for heating bills — but residents believe those numbers are inaccurate. Apartment operators have not given the tenants access to meters so they can check whether their heating bills are accurate, said Sanders, who said he owes more than $2,000. SAN DIEGO – Helicopter water drops stopped a fast moving brush fire from reaching one of the largest apartment complexes in San Diego Monday morning . The fire broke out on the east side of Interstate 15 just north of Friars Road before 8 a.m. The flames spread rapidly the steep hillside toward the Village Mission Valley apartments , a large complex at 6560 Ambrosia Drive previously known as La Mirage. Firefighters immediately deployed engines on the freeway and sent other units to the top of the hill to protect the apartments.
